Last week I practiced falling off of my bike.
I'm not sure what happened, but I rode off the edge of a paved trail and found my bike and I going in separate directions. Vollyball and gymnastics skills kicked in, and I tucked in my limbs, rolled across the trail and landed on two hands and one knee.
PSA: GLOVES! They are helmets for your hands!!
I was surprisingly unhurt, save my pride. My hands were a little sore, but I could move all my parts and there was only a little blood coming from my knee. I bandaged myself up well enough to get to a market for better bandages, and was able to still ride that day.
PSA: First aid kits! Hello Kitty bandaids can fix a lot of boo boos, but Tegaderm, bandages, gauze and antisceptic can go a little further.
I have a nice bruise on my knee and a little tiny bit of road rash, but my body and my bike are totally fine, except for my bar tape on one side. Come to think of it, I probably crashed because I just changed my bar tape. Similar to how it stops raining when you put on a rain jacket?
It's a good thing I practiced falling last week. It came in handy this morning... More on that later.
