Jamie is the owner of Sunrise Cyclery and the biggest supporter of Grease Rag Ride & Wrench. (Understatement of the century: Jamie donates everything from space to photocopies, staff, tools, time, expertise... the list is endless. No Jamie= No Grease Rag.) He is not only our sponsor- he is a really amazing friend and ally to all of us!
Jamie has had some recent health trouble that landed him in the hospital. The man with the biggest heart winds up having heart failure... Luckily he did not sustain permanent damage and he's going to pull through.
Jamie needs our support right now.
Let's come together, pool our resources, and give something back.
I asked Jamie what he needs most right now, and he needs love, help at the shop, and money.
It's no fun being in the hospital swallowing pills the size of Christmas hams and being poked and prodded and hooked up to machines. Let's show some love!
Use your unlimited text plans to send Jamie some love at 612-310-6698. Tell a joke, tell him what bike you ride, tell him you appreciate Grease Rag, whatever comes to mind.
It is too late to organize this for Grease Rag this week, but next Grease Rag I want to have a HUGE turnout. I want to pack all of you lovely women/ trans/ femme cyclists into the shop at 7pm on Thursday, September 16th for a photo. Even if you can't stay for the wrenching, please come for the photo and show your support. I think this will be a really special gesture and I'm excited to see you all come out. If you have never been to the shop and just want to show up for the photo, that is more than okay! Please come! (Post with details to follow shortly.)
Jamie does most of the repairs and sales at Sunrise Cyclery, so with him gone repairs are not getting done, and sales are not being made.
Lend some time at the shop. Call 612-824-6144 and contact Jeff or Nick about how to help cover hours/ work. If we all contribute a little we can make a dent in the workload.
When situations like this happen, you rarely get any warning. Jamie is unable to work in the shop and is racking up some decent hospital bills.
Let's use our consumer power to support him. Come into Sunrise and buy something. Need tubes? That helps. Bike geek have a birthday coming up? Gift certificates are good for any amount, no expiration date. Merchandise is being liquidated, take advantage of sales. (Details forthcoming.) If you need a winter bike, come on in.
As things come up I will keep you updated. Please email me if you have any questions, and suggestions are welcome.
Thank you so much for reading and contributing, if you choose to do so. Grease Rag and Jamie appreciate everything you do to support us.
Take care of yourselves so we can take care of each other!
