Jobs in N. Minneapolis, beyond

By : Lowrah · November 6, 2011

Two paid opportunities in N. Minneapolis and a volunteer position have come my way, and I wanted to share them with you.

The first is asking for a female mechanic:

I am emailing you to help find a female mechanic starting now! for 20 hours a week to help Venture North repair their fleet of used bikes, to my understanding this can turn into an ongoing position. Those of you who don't know what Venture North is... here is a short article http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/dhfs/venturenorth.asp.

The Hub has been helping them with some start up consultation and will be having 6 of their interns apprentice with us this summer. They were asking for my help to contact women with mechanic skills. They really want to have a female mechanic at their shop so that female interns can see that it is just not males that can turn a wrench. Anyways I would appreciate your help to pass this on to other women if you are not interested yourself to other women with mechanic skills.

Just email me if you are interested. If you have any questions please feel free to call me at [let me know if you need email/ phone contact info].

Duties include biking and walking through selected North Minneapolis neighborhoods to locate respondents who participated in pre-survey and conduct surveys.

Desired qualifications:
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Excellent interpersonal and listening skills
- Interest in promoting cycling and walking for transportation

A cyclist is biking around the world to raise money for Tanzanian students to go to college and would like some volunteers to commit a few hours a week.

Elvis, a young Tanzanian naturalist, is going to bicycle around the world (literally) to raise money to create scholarships for Tanzanian students to go to college and study wildlife management. This is a real example of change coming from the inside!

We are a dedicated group of volunteers working tirelessly to ensure the success of this ride. I met Elvis on my NGSE trip this summer, and we created this idea together. However, I need more support to ensure that information about this ride gets out to the general public across the country and the world.

We need your help! We're looking for 6-8 people who can give about 2-5 hours a week for this cause. The work will be primarily internet-based, and depending on your interests and skills may lead to making phone calls, hanging up fliers, ect. We are flexible and want to use the skills everyone brings to the project. We need dedicated people across the country who have access to a regular internet connection, respond promptly to e-mails, and are self-motivated enough to meet regular weekly deadlines.

If you can't donate the 2-5 hours a week, but still want to help- "liking" and "following" us on these sites will help to spread the word!
