June 9- Women's Day of Bike Walk Week

Join a Fun, Woman Centered Ride And Learn More About Safety Initiatives on The Midtown Greenway!

On Wednesday, June 9 in conjunction with Bike Walk Week, a special edition of Women on Wednesday (WOW) will take place.

WOW is a weekly ride of the Midtown Greenway Coalition Trail Watchers. We cruise the Greenway as a citizen’s bike patrol, helping bikers and other citizens with any safety concerns, sweeping up glass, providing information, but mostly we provide a presence on the Greenway to help keep it safe.  Oh, yeah, we have a lot of fun just riding and talking about any issue that interests us.

This is a relaxed and social bike ride.  The women of WOW want the chance to talk with you about safe riding on the trail, offer our tips for personal safety, and will try to answer any questions about women and bikes.   We want to learn from you too, but most of all we just want to see more women out on their bikes.

Rides will begin at 6, 7, and 8.  Meet at the Freewheel Midtown Bike Center (on the north side of the Greenway between Chicago and 10th Avenue).

Helmets and lights are required.  Ride waiver forms will be available for your signature prior to the ride.

Five free bicycle lights will be given to the first riders in each group and a free reflective leg band for every rider.    We are asking all riders to wear something red – this is the theme for Bike Walk Week’s Women’s Wednesday to emphasize our commitment to bicycling for fun and transportation as well as to women’s health.
