Friday is National Bike to Work Day, and if you're looking for a little motivation to get on your bicycle, meet Lucette Gilbert. Lucette says she is in her "very late 70s" and biking since she was 7 years old. So, by my calculations, she has been riding a bike for some 70 years! She became a bike commuter in New York City during the 1980 transit strike and currently rides everywhere, including her daily trip to work from the Upper East Side to Union Square. Lucette's take on the state of bicycling in NYC: "People are not used to bicycles, but it's so heartwarming to see how many people are biking now."

I am not posting this video because Lucette Gilbert is a "little old lady" on a bike. I'm posting this video because she is a woman that rides her bike for fun and transportation, and because I like her attitude!
"People say, 'Oh you're still biking,' which I find offensive. When I can't bike anymore, my body will tell me. But my body keeps telling me, 'Go for it! Good for you!'"

Omg-- I LOVE those ladies! That is a goal of mine actually; to one day be "that old lady who still rides her bike around in the woods." I wish my area (the sticks) had more bike friendly routes, like paved shoulders etc. Maybe someday. :)
I live in Minneapolis, and I ride to work, I ride to play, and I ride my bike everyday that I can. I've been attending Grease Rag since July, 2009, and I'm happy to be a part of this positive group of WTF cyclists.
