Pre-Babes Wanderabout
Babes in Bikeland is an all-female & transgender alleycat race in Minneapolis. This year, Babes in Bikeland 6 is on Saturday, September 8. I am so enthusiastic about getting you out there to race, because every year I hear people reiterate the same things I said after my first Babes race:
It was so much fun to look around and see ALL of those WTFs on bikes!
I liked going fast/ slow! I'm suprised I finished/ I didn't mind not finishing!
I met my new bff!
I asked for some words of encouragement on our facebook group, and Mel said, "this is less of a "race" and more of a gathering of the coolest women in the Midwest. ride fast if you want. but if you just want to wander around the city with a suggested route, do that too! such a great opportunity to check out a bike race. do it!!!"
From Carmen: "When you start off, you're nervous with excitement, and then the adrenaline starts pumping, and it turns out you have a LOT more endurance and focus than you ever thought...so awesome."
Lauren said, "DOOOO IT! Race schmace, it is more about getting to discover different parts of the city, and ride around with a bunch of rad ladies. And the afterparty is kicking, because it is one of the few bike events where ladies are the strong majority, and there is tons of schwag to be had."
And from a last-year rookie, Linda, "Last year was my first and I went with a smallish (5) group of friends. There was a lot of concentrated excitement as everyone checked in and began to plan their route. The excitement kept building as it got closer to start time. When the whole big excited group of us took off together, it was more than exhilarating. It was empowering. Soon, different strands of WTFs flowed out from the large group, following their own preferred route and pace. The stops were well planned to get us to experience bike routes throughout the city. Every stop had something funny/creative/kinda challenging for riders to do with awesome volunteers. The after party was: plenty of food, music, beer, dancing, swag, and celebration of everyone's accomplishment. The night ride home was blissful. We owned the streets."
Getting pumped yet?? Maybe you've convinced yourself that you really want to try this race on for size, but you don't feel like doing it solo, and your friends are still on the fence. I might have just the thing for that...
