Hey Gorgeous!
Ellie Kingsbury is a WTF cyclist and photographer working on a super cool project snapping photos of winter bike commuters in Minneapolis.
There is a narrative for the project on Ellie's website, here. There are also photos from years past, here.
I started this project late in the winter of 2008, did a few more late winter 2009, and am on track to finish this year. I have always preferred biking over driving, and started riding year round five or six years ago. In the beginning I would hardly ever lock my bike in the winter - there just weren't that many freaks willing to bike in the cold - and I often had people calling me crazy. Fast forward six years, and we became the nation's #1 biking city because of the sizable number of people who ride year round. How cool is that? My intent is to put a face to the population (we're so covered up), and really to tell non-riders that biking in the winter isn't that hard. It seems now the project is getting legs, and I want to get as diverse a crowd as possible.
Kat and I will be at A Baker's Wife Saturday, 12/18, at 9AM for a pastry and a photoshoot. Sound like fun? Come and join us! You can just show up and we can get to know each other. Feel free to bring a friend. =]
If you would like to talk to Ellie about her winter commuter portrait project (She's really nice!) contact her via email or phone.
