Spring Lessons

By : Lowrah · March 18, 2011

You have just endured another VERY SNOWY Minnesotan winter- soak up some vitamin D and revel in the slop of spring.  You've earned it!  Here are some things that I'm re-learning about the season.  Do you have any to add?

Taking your studded tires off guarantees the temp will drop below freezing again

If it looks wet and you can't see the bottom of it, don't ride over it-  tis the season of person-eating potholes

After riding through a half-frozen slush puddle check your brakes because they might be frozen

Cars zooming around you in a puddle mine-field- I hope you are wearing rain pants

Grit, salt, sand- bring your bike into your local bike shop for an overhaul before the first nice weather weekend and everyone gets the same idea, or you will be waiting a lonnng time to get your bike back  (Better yet, overhaul it yourself!)

Check your shoes before you walk into the house- the melt brings all sorts of forgotten evils to the sidewalks

Flashing some leg meat and feeling sunshine on your arm flesh feels like biking naked after months of johnnies and layers

Sunglasses are good for the increased daylight hours, glare from shrinking snow banks, and keeping road grit out of your eyes

Fenders or skunk butt, you decide

Shoe covers..or sometimes I put a plastic bag between my feet and shoes to keep my feet dry for my final destination!
